BESTrustees is pleased to respond to the Pensions Regulator’s corporate strategy consultation.
We are one of the longest established professional pension trustee companies in the UK, operating on a ‘pure’ governance model, where we are independent and employee-owned. Commercially we do not need to extend our services into other areas, neither do we need to provide dividends to meet an external shareholder’s return requirements. In our model, the distinction between impartial trusteeship and independent advice can never compromised.
BESTrustees’ director Bob Hymas authored our response. The overall view is that the Regulator’s current framework for the governance of the majority of UK pension schemes and the regulatory environment operates very well. That said, this is a changing industry. Consolidation and the diminishing role of defined benefit schemes are clearly significant trends, but this does not change the fact that the pensions industry remains diverse with many different parties involved.
