Paul has extensive pensions experience and joined BESTrustees in 2025 after a long career in the industry. His background is both in employer covenant-related work as a Partner at both KPMG and Grant Thornton; and as an executive for nearly eight years for what is now Railpen, the Executive Company of the Railways Pension Scheme where, amongst a number of other responsibilities, he Chaired the Scheme’s Risk Management Committee.

Paul has advised on a considerable number of covenant-related matters across a wide range of business sectors – including in relation to highly complex corporate transactions including M&A and various forms of refinancing and restructuring.  In 2012, Paul established what is now the Employer Covenant Practitioner Association and was an author on multiple papers and practice guidance published by the Association.

In addition to his professional trustee work for BESTrustees, Paul is an also part-time Departmental Lecturer in Taxation Law at the University of Oxford where he earned his DPhil. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a Chartered Tax Adviser (Fellow) and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and has completed the PMI Level 3 award in Pension Trusteeship.

Away from the office, Paul has an active family life and enjoys gliding, aerobatics and singing.
