Catherine joined BESTrustees in 2017 and has over 30 years’ experience in the pensions industry.

Prior to joining BESTrustees Catherine held senior roles in the executive management teams supporting the trustee boards and governance committees of two of the largest private sector pension schemes in the UK – the Barclays UK Retirement Fund, and the BT Pension Scheme.

In her executive roles, Catherine’s experience included responsibility for overseeing the strategic review, transformation and ongoing effectiveness of member administration services and communications. She had extensive involvement in a number of liability management exercises, including a pensions increase exchange exercise offered to more than 100,000 pensioners, and a longevity transaction covering more than £16bn of pension liabilities. She has overseen the design and delivery of a number of data and benefits reviews, including one of the UK’s largest GMP reconciliation exercises. Her DC investment experience covers the redesign of the member default investment option and the launch of one of the first multi-million and award winning UK diversified growth funds. Catherine has a particular interest in good scheme governance, and has had involvement in a number of trustee effectiveness reviews.

Earlier in her career, Catherine worked at Towers Perrin (now Willis Towers Watson), on a variety of domestic and international total reward assignments, giving her a strong insight into the significance of pension programmes in a broader reward context. Even earlier, she was Product Development Actuary for Canada Life (Ireland) Ltd, with responsibility for the development of individual and group pensions, life, health and annuity products.

In Catherine’s role as a professional trustee, she has or is working with a variety of schemes across a range of sectors, with assets under management from £200m to £20bn. For most of these schemes, Catherine has been appointed Trustee Chair.

Catherine Redmond is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and an accredited professional trustee with the APPT.
