Andy joined BESTrustees in 2014 and was appointed to the Board in July 2019.

He has over 25 years’ experience within the investment management and pensions industry and has worked with DC and DB schemes, Master Trusts, sole trusteeships, international pension plans, investment strategies, the impact of corporate transactions on pension plans, governance and most importantly ensuring that members and savers have confidence in the plans.

Andy was formerly the Group HR and Corporate Services Director for the global fund management company, Henderson Group Plc where as an employer he was active in positioning pensions as an integral part of the reward and remuneration package. He was also a Board Director of the asset management company and has significant investment knowledge. Before that, Andy spent 12 years at J Sainsbury Plc in a variety of roles, including store manager.

Andy’s considerable knowledge of pensions comes from a variety of roles; as the employer, in-house pensions manager and as a Trustee, including as a sole trustee. He also has been involved in a number of corporate transactions. He has been involved in the full range of modern pensions management including buy-ins and buyouts, wind-ups, off shore trusts, reducing costs and restricting benefits, alternative investment approaches, as well as significant amounts of M&A activity (including cross-border) and their impacts on pensions. He is also an experienced sole trustee including taking over from experienced Trustees upon corporate activity.

Andy is fully accredited by the Association of Professional Pensions Trustees (APPT) and holds the Pensions Management Institute (PMI) qualification. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and an examiner at the institute. Outside of Pensions, Andy is an experienced non-executive Director and campaigner for leasehold reform.
