The team : Zahir Fazal
Zahir is a Chartered Accountant and before he joined BESTrustees in June 2008 was a partner at Horwath Clark Whitehill where he established their highly successful Pensions Group in 1995. He acted as engagement and audit partner for several large schemes for many years (including the J Sainsbury, ITV, Nationwide, CitiGroup, Woolworths, Paribas and Accenture schemes). Over the last few years he has focused on advising trustees on governance, risk and internal control issues and on the strength of employer’s covenants. Latterly, he has taken a particular interest in governance and control in the area of investments.
He is Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Sub-committee on Pensions and Chairman Elect of the Pensions Research Accountants Group (PRAG). In these capacities he has regular contact with the DWP and the Pensions Regulator on regulatory developments. He also Chaired the PRAG Working Party which revised the Pensions SORP in 2007. He is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars.
For a number of years Zahir has been a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer of the Queens Nursing Institute where he chairs the Finance & General Purpose Committee. As such he oversees the preparation of the charity’s budget, its investment strategy and general financial position.
