The team : Peter Murray (Associate)
Peter retired as Chief Executive of the Railways Pension Trustee Company (RPTCL), in 2004 after seven years. In that role, he was Executive Chairman of Railpen Investments Ltd which is responsible for the investment of some £14bn of assets and for providing strategic asset allocation advice to nine railway schemes, one of which has 95 actuarially and financially separate sections. He was also Executive Chairman of Railway Pensions Management which administers the railway schemes which have a total membership of some 350,000. Peter remains a Trustee Director of RPTCL and is a member of its Investment Committee.
Before joining the rail industry, Peter was UK National Pensions Manager of Unilever, a Trustee of the Unilever Superannuation Fund and a Director of Unilever Pensions Investment Ltd - the Investment Committee of the fund.
Peter joined BESTrustees in August 2004. In addition to his position as an Associate of BESTrustees, he is a consultant to a firm of investment advisors and, as such, is registered with the Financial Services Authority as an Investment Advisor.
Peter was a member of the Council of the National Association of Pension Funds from 1993 to 2001 and was NAPF Chairman from 1997 to 1999. He was also a member of the Board of the Occupational Pensions Regulatory Authority (Opra) between 1996 and 1997. He is a Governor of the Pensions Policy Institute.
