How we add value
'Added value' is an expression many people use but few can demonstrate. We know from our experience that there are a number of ways that we can and do add value including:
- Setting investment strategies
- Reviewing governance
- Getting the best from advisers
Setting investment strategies
We have a great deal of experience in understanding risk, considering investment performance and comparing investment strategies, all of which our clients find helpful when decisions are being made in relation to investments. Specific areas of expertise include:
- Understanding liabilities
- Setting and monitoring investment strategies
- Analysing and understanding the risks managers take to achieve performance
- Interpreting performance statistics
- Making sure managers comply with their service agreements
- Negotiating fees
Reviewing governance
It is now recognised as a matter of good governance for a pension scheme to review all its advisers on a regular basis. At BESTrustees we have considerable experience of this. As part of our regular service, we help our fellow trustees to make sure that the service provided by external advisers - consultants, asset managers, custodians, legal advisers, administrators - is appropriate to their particular scheme and in accordance with good industry practice.
Getting the best from advisers
All too often, pension scheme trustees do not have the experience and skills to make sure that they get the very best from their advisers. By their nature, advisers are experts in their own field but often lack knowledge and experience in other areas of scheme management. Our broadly-based range of skills enables us to make sure proper advice is taken when required and that maximum value is obtained from this advice.
